As a conductor, he started his activity in 1994 and since then he has conducted almost 200 performances both in Opera and Symphonic repertoire, working both in Italy and abroad (UK, Bulgaria, Egypt, France) but mainly restricting his work mainly to the performances for the PUCCINI E LA SUA LUCCA Festival, for which he leads an operatic/symphonic season of 15 concerts every year.

He has worked with the Sophia Philharmonic Orchestra, Sophia Symphony Orchestra, Strauss Konzert Orchestra, Orchestra Lirico Sinfonica di Grosseto, Orchestra Filarmonica Nazionale Italiana and the Lucca Philharmonic Orchestra, created by Colombini in 2010 and rapidly establishing itself as one of the finest orchestra realities in Tuscany and Italy alike.Among the many works he conducted with the latter, the Italian creation of works by Elgar, Vaughan Williams and – next October – Anton Bruckner’s 8th Symphony in the version revised, in 1939, by the Austrian musicologist Robert Haas.

He is one of the biographers of the great Austrian conductor Herbert Von Karajan, about whom he recently produced a new critical biography/essay printed by LCD Pisa, IL MAL DI KARAJAN. In 2013 he successfully conducted the Orchestra at the Vienna Musikverein, performing Puccini’s music and in 2014 he realized with the orchestra more than 20 concerts and 12 new music films dedicated mainly to Italian operatic music and international symphonic repertoire, performing once again and fully successfully in Vienna’s Musikverein in December 2014 and December 2015, with a further performance on 18th Dec 2016.
